Project Management

Over the years I have been a member of various project teams.  These were great experiences as I gleaned how to manage projects as well as developed new skills.  Also, contributing to the success of a project is pleasing.

Not having access to MS Project until recently, I created and coded my own Gannt Chart using Microsoft Excel.  This allowed me to manage small projects within the laboratory such as:

  • media expiry date validation
  • Total Microbial Count validation
  • implementation of electronic worksheets

To enhance my project management skills and knowledge, I’ve undertaken some training around the Project Management Body of Knowledge, aka the PMBOK Guide.:

  • An Introduction to Project Management – BMS internal training (PROJ0511)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)® 2016 – self lead CBTNuggets training
  • Project Management for the Real World – self lead CBTNuggets training

During my time on project teams, I’ve trained in (or become knowledgable) in:

  • Long term scheduling – self taught
  • Change management – self taught
  • Business process mapping – lead by Tactics
  • Training Small groups component of Cert IV in Assessment and Workplace Training – lead by Melbourne Uni
  • Working Effectively in Project Teams – Mayne Pharma internal training
  • The general principles of project management
  • DR 09033 Laboratory design and construction

Skills, Knowledge and Training I possess that supports me in my project management tasks include:

  • Process auditing skills – developed throughout career
  • Problem solving and decision making skills – Lead by Kepner Tregoe
  • Communicating as a leader training – self lead BMS traning
  • Quality management system knowledge – self taught
  • Effective customer communication – lead by TMI/Tack International
  • Technical writing skills – developed throughout career
  • Effective Supervisory Management – lead by Leadership Management Australia
  • Presentation skills – developed throughout career and while studying for design diploma
