My (DiSC) Traits & How They Can Benefit Your Organisation

Let’s examine my traits and how they make me the best choice for your next employment opportunity.

In 2016, I took a DiSC assessment and scored a 6136.

Six for dominance. One for influence (hmmm). Three for steadiness and a final six for Conscientiousness.

Dominance: represented by a panther. Up one from my 2009 score of five. Those in this group like to tackle varied activities and embrace a wide range of tasks and tend to work best when working on multiple complex tasks. The main objectives for panthers is control and results. What this means to you is that I have strong project management and scheduling skills. I also make sure the documented procedures are followed (and improved) and we get results at all levels within suitable time frames.

Influence: represented by a peacock. This score dropped slightly from 2009 where I scored a two. This shows how personality tests are good in principle, but may have flaws. Working in IT Technical Support, I need good influencing skills and as a successful Team Leader, I certainly had them. Perhaps this is why when interviewed for roles, the job has gone to others. Thus, something I need to work on. As a team leader, I’d need to utilise a second in command who scores high here.

Steadiness: represented by a Dolphin. Back in 2009, this was a different animal (I cannot recall what it was at this point in time and it is not important). My score here went up to three. Perhaps I am less calm and humble than I used to be. This probably boils down to needing to advertise my skills to others in order to move up/along in life. Thus, I am now more vocal as to what I want and where we as a team are headed.

Conscientiousness: represented by an owl. My biggest shift since 2009 – up three to six. My school reports always said I was conscientious so I was a little miffed when I scored a three in 2009. Good to see I’m back on track. From a practical standpoint, this means my analytical thinking has improved and I take a systematic approach to getting jobs done. I aim to achieve superior results and like to structure my environment (by using schedules). When dealing with others, I tend to be diplomatic. Perhaps being diplomatic during job interviews has been to my detriment.

Cutting out the waffle, the full DiSC reports sums me up:

  • Takes action to achieve results
  • Likes to be precise and keep focused on the details while seeing the larger picture
  • Desire for tangible results
  • Drive for perfection
  • Thinks and react quickly (though wants to explore ALL options)
  • Relishes asking “why” (ask 5 times!)
  • Tends to use systematic approach
  • Exhibits foresight
  • Brings about change, and changes made are likely to be sound
  • Demonstrates considerable planning ability
  • Tends to be diplomatic
  • Can make daily decisions quickly
  • Able to bypass convention and develop innovative solutions
  • Can shrewdly manipulate people and situations (think win-win)
  • Persistent when pursuing results
  • High expectations of self and others

The summary confirms that I am an analytical results driven agent of change who diplomatically influences others. Just what you need to support the success of your organisation!
